Tom Carroll was born and raised in St. John’s Newfoundland. He began painting landscapes and still lives at an early age and was fascinated with the magic of paint and paper. After studying science for two years at Memorial University he decided to pursue a career in Fine Art at the University of Guelph. During his student days he won several print making and juried art shows and awards. He graduated with a honors BA in 1985 from the University of Guelph, and began showing his work regularly throughout Southern Ontario.
In 1996 Tom established Art Services in downtown Guelph where along with showing his paintings in the gallery Tom provided picture framing and art restoration services. In 1999 the gallery was relocated to farm property owned together with his partner Marieke. The 75 acre farm in the Erin /Halton Hills region is home to 12 Arabian and Arabian cross horses as well as several dogs and cats. The farm setting provided an ability for Tom to expanded his studio to include painting studio, a printmaking studio and in the summer the loft in the big barn on the hill becomes a summer studio for studying and watching Marieke train the horses. Working on an original Praga printing press Tom’ s talents shine making etching on copper or zinc with limited printing editions usually under twenty original prints.
Tom currently retails his work through his private gallery. Visitors to the gallery will experience first hand the stunning surrounding that stimulate Tom’s landscapes and the horses that bring joy to his life. Marieke’s private gardens and the studio in the barn are open by special invite or during exhibitions. The gallery has a full service picture framing shop and an Art Restoration Lab which is open by appointment.
Tom is a talented prolific artist his oil paintings include landscapes, portraits, florals, and equestrian images. There are many works available for viewing both in the gallery and in the Veterinary Hospital. All works are elegantly framed and can be purchased in their existing frame or reframed to meet your requirements. Private viewings can be arranged for both private and corporate collectors.
